Among the Lakota, the Wakinyan — the Thunder Beings — are known as powerful spirits of the west, carried on the storm and the lightning. For countless generations, those who sought a vision turned their faces to the sky and listened for their voice.
This account belongs to that tradition: the memory of the vision seekers of Pine Ridge, and the teachings the Thunder Beings left with our people through times of great change and renewal. It is a story meant to be heard as much as read — told by those who carry it, in the season and the setting that honor it.
"When the world feels broken, it is in the coming together of the people that healing begins."
We share these stories so that our children, and all who walk with the Oyate, may know the strength that runs through us. They are not relics of the past — they are living teachings that guide our prayer, our ceremony, and our fellowship today.
